A Door Frame Metal Detector, also known as a “walk through” metal detector, helps detect metallic objects on a person’s body. The different types are as follows:
- Single zone DFMD
This door frame has a single-sided sensor that can detect only one zone on the body. This type of DFMD is used in smaller facilities where risk and threats are minimal.
- Multi-zone DFMD
This door frame has multiple sensors on both sides that can detect metals present on either side of the person. The multi-zone DMFD is used at more extensive facilities where safety and security are required at high priority. - A well-designed detector will provide uniform detection across the different zones of the body. Dead spots or zones where high and low sensitivities are detected indicate a poorly designed DFMD.
- If other objects or instalments nearby interfere with the detector, the device is low in quality. A high-quality DMFD comes with efficient noise inhibition software algorithms. This software enables the device to cancel out the noise from various sources like flickering light bulbs, photocopiers, two-radios, etc.
- The DFMD should be active throughout operations. It should not present circuitry deactivation at any time. Installing one that pauses detection in an unmanned area can be a safety risk for the members at that facility.

What you should specifically look for in a metal detector is its level of strength. Flat round search elements have the lowest mechanical power, and therefore, are not used in larger complexes.
The body part of the metal detector has to be rigid with durable quality and non-brittle material.
If the HHMD detects more false alarms than the actual object, its quality is questionable and should not be purchased.
The best variant would include a detector with windings of inductors with copper wire on particular reels. These reels are further impregnated with electrical varnish in a specialized electrotechnical compound.
